Biblical Text: Matthew 16:13-20

The text is Peter’s confession of Jesus as the Christ. And the response is the bestowing of “the keys.” The keys are defined as the authority to bind and to loose sins. This sermon leans to the teaching side. It is about the Office of the Keys. It surveys what different traditions teach in regards to this and then it does the Lutheran thing and turns to Confessions (Small Catechism and Smalcald Articles) and the Scriptures. In the second half it returns to my proclamation roots. How is one to use these Keys.
